Accountability

You know what to do. You are not doing it.

The plan was never the problem. Staying consistent is the biggest sticking point there is, and it is the one I fix: a real person keeping an eye on you, who messages when you go off the rails.

The problem

It was never a lack of information.

You start strong on Monday, and by Thursday it has gone.
You chase five or six goals at once, and when everything is a priority, nothing is.
You set the bar high, miss it, beat yourself up and quit.
Tired, busy, out of routine: the excuses turn up on time every day.
Nobody notices when you stop, so you stop.
The result

A calendar of big, beautiful ticks.

Small wins that compound. Proof, day after day, that you are someone who does what he says. And a real person who notices the day you do not.

How it works

Four steps. Nothing to hide behind.

01

Choose your goal

One goal. When everything is a priority, nothing is.

02

Find the minimum

The smallest action that counts as success. One rep. One word.

03

Fix when and where

Know in concrete detail when you will do it.

04

Track it

Mark every day on a calendar and send me a photo of your tick or cross.

Most issues are emotional issues. Set up properly, accountability removes every excuse you could make and shows you the truth about yourself.

The handbook

The rules

1. Make it impossible to fail

If your goal is to work out, make it one rep. Motivation comes from momentum, and 1% is always better than 0%.

2. Make it binary

Yes or no, not degrees. Vague categories get bent and rationalised.

3. Make it trackable

A big tick for success, a big X for failure. Without seeing the trend, you just go from one day to the next.

4. Make it simple

Focus on your single most important goal until you are consistent enough for more.

5. Put skin in the game

We hate to lose more than we love to gain. Joining is already a stake in your own success. If you get really stuck, we raise it: £10 on a missed day.

6. Go easy on yourself

Beating yourself up reinforces a negative spiral. Build a positive one from little successes that compound.

7. Bear with negative sensations

Your body will trick you into wanting to quit. The point is to learn to bear with yourself.

8. Remove the bullshit

There is not one excuse, other than dying, that means you cannot write one word a day.

9. Failure is your friend

Failure is data.
